It can take one from excessively ‘high,’ overly good, euphoric mood to distractibility, or can’t concentrate well. Abuse of drugs, particularly cocaine, alcohol, and sleeping medications is a risk. The low state can be lasting sad, anxious, or empty mood. Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or helplessness can plague a person. Decreased energy, a feeling of fatigue or sleeping too much can be a sign of manic depression.
