Addiction is when you have difficulty controlling how much you use or how long you use. For example, one drink leads to more drinks, or one line of cocaine leads to more.
There are different levels and types of addictions. At one end of the spectrum is the non-functioning addict. There is a social stigma about addictions such as: those who could not function at their jobs. There are gambling addictions, food addictions and many others.
At the other end of the spectrum is the functioning addict. You don’t have to suffer major losses to have an addiction. Many people have overcome addiction, and are now enjoying a better life. It can be done. It’s never easy to quit. But if you’ve already suffered negative consequences and don’t want them to get worse, there’s never a better time to quit than now.
PTSD, otherwise known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, is an anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to one or more terrifying events in which grave physical harm occurred or was threatened. It is a severe and ongoing emotional reaction to an extreme trauma. It can be caused from wars, childhood abuse, 9/11 or any number of life’s traumatic events either personal or global.
