The New Eating Disorder: ‘Drunkorexia’
The University of Texas School of Public Health and the University of North Texas Health Science Center say that binge drinking has increased significantly among young adults over the last decade – and ABC News says that that may be due in part to the rise of a new trend in eating disorders called “drunkorexia.” This calorie-inhibiting diet focuses on allowing you to drink as much as you want while cutting out meals, working out rather than eating, or purging prior to drinking in order to maintain a low weight. It’s especially popular among young women in college who drink socially but want to remain thin – and it’s an eating disorder that is just as dangerous as anorexia or bulimia.
