Wichita Falls, Texas Mental Health Treatment Facilities

Wichita Falls is a city in Wichita County, Texas and is home to the Sheppard Air Force Base. According to the U.S. Census estimate of 2008, the city had a population of 101,202. A flood in 1886 destroyed the original falls on the Wichita River for which the city was named, however after nearly 100 years of visitors wanting to visit the non-existent falls, the city built an artificial waterfall beside the river in Lucy Park. Wichita Falls has suffered the devastation of F5 tornadoes, not once, but twice in its history. Much destruction was caused in 1964 and again in 1979 when major tornadoes struck the area. Lives were lost and millions of dollars in damage was incurred in both cases. (See related: Lubbock Mental Health Treatment)

Types of Mental Health Issues

Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a severe anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to any event resulting in psychological trauma. PTSD symptoms can include re-experiencing the original trauma or traumas through flashbacks or nightmares.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) generally affects adults, but can also be found in younger people. It describes mood disorders defined by the presence of episodes of abnormally high energy levels or mood and depressive episodes. BPD sufferers often switch between idealizing and demonizing others.
